A small circulating library was brought to the second floor of the museum soon after it was built. This was known as “The Henry Hungerford Library.” It served both adults and children until the advent of the Montross branch of the Rappahannock Regional library.
Now what remains is an historical and genealogical library on the second floor; it draws people from around the country in search of information on their family’s history in Westmoreland County. Researchers-both local and from all parts of the country-are able to find a surprising amount of information about their ancestors.
The museum’s library is constantly seeking to add to our historical information in our library and family files. If you have family histories, papers or family group sheets, we would very much like to have copies for our files. You can contact the WCM genealogical library at firstname.lastname@example.org or 804-493-8440.
If you have genealogy books on Westmoreland County or the Northern Neck that you no longer use or need, please considers donating them to our library.
We are also very interested in any old pictures of people, places and homes of Westmoreland County, if you have any that you can share with us, please bring them by the museum and we will scan and return them immediately to you.
