Homozelle Montgomery
(b. 1882)
Colonial Beach - Homozelle Montgomery as born in Warsaw, VA to A.J. Montgomery and Louemma (Garland) Montgomery. She lived in Colonial Beach for more than 40 years and worked as an Assistant Postmaster. She also worked in 1941 as "Postmistress" at Mary Washington College. She was a member of the St. John's Church in Warsaw.

Cople - Effie Rae Dobyns married Thomas Arthur (Jake) English in 1920 and traveled to Baltimore by way of steamboat for their honeymoon. They ran a country store in Hague for many years, selling everything from bread to pants. Effie and Jake were loyal members of the Carmel Methodist Church, where Effie taught a Sunday school class for many years.

Montross - Born in Long Island, NY, Bertha Effington Lawrence was a deaconess of the Episcopal women's movement in the late 1800s.
She served as a missionary at the private Blue Ridge School in Saint George, VA where she wore missionary attire as seen. Bertha married Hague naive, Blake T. Newton (VA State Senator 1956-66) in 1913. Together they raised 3 children in Montross.

Montross - Alice Carver married Arthur E. Carver in 1909 (photograph shows the Carvers on their wedding day). Though her occupation was listed on the 1920 voting rolls as housekeeper - now known as homemaker - Carver assisted her grandparents' farm while raising two children and selling eggs in a local store. Alice convinced her husband in 1941 to donate the land that is the site of the original Westmoreland County Museum building.

Hague - Virginia Alberta Storrs married Rev. James R. Henderson. Together, they had thirteen children. She was known as an influential woman in all the communities in which she resided, she was "a bright shining light" in the Woman's Baptist and Educational Convention and a missionary field worker of Richmond County.

Naomi J. (Harrington) Hall

Montross - Naomi Jane Harrington, daughter of Elkton Crabbe Harrington and Juanita "Nita" Naomi (Porter) Harrington. Both Naomi and her mother Juanita were registered to vote in 1920. She married Ernest Huff Hall in 1928.

Judith A. (McCoy) Johnson
(b. 1864)
Hague - Judith Amelia McCoy was the bride of Richard Lee Johnson, a Buffalo Soldier in the 10th Calvary regiment. Together, they had three children. Judith was a member of the Potomac Baptist Church. She and her daughter, Alverta Johnson of Hague, are both listed as women registered to vote in 1920.

Montross - Mary Blanche Robertson was a teacher and an Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington D.C. She was the daughter of Joseph Fox Robertson and Eliza Alice (Sutton) Robertson, and sister to Alice (Robertson) Carver and Nannie May Lee Robertson.
